A Greek Fantasy
Villa Kérylos (2021)
A poetic dialogue with ancient mythology, brought to life within one of the French Riviera's most remarkable monuments.
Hubert Le Gall created a new body of work designed to resonate with the Greek architecture of the Villa Kérylos, an exceptional monument on the French Riviera built in the early 1900s by archaeologist Théodore Reinach. Drawing on his poetic imagination, Le Gall reinterpreted some of the most celebrated mythological narratives, offering visitors a new perspective on Greek Antiquity — an absolute Greek Fantasy.
Reinach, a passionate admirer of ancient Greek architecture, commissioned architect Emmanuel Pontremoli to reimagine a Greek noble house based on drawings gathered during travels in Asia Minor; a vision that made the Villa the ideal backdrop for Le Gall's exploration of the ancient world. Today the Villa is owned by the Institut de France and open to the public as a museum.
